Welcome to Teaching Pins

Welcome to Teaching Pins! The place to go to see what on Pinterest is working in my classroom and what has gone so, so wrong.

A little about me,  I love blogs. I actually write two and now I decided to write a third. Yes, I know it would be much easier to write one blog and then have different pages, but I like keeping them separate. If you are interested in reading a blog about books and other things go here: Henshaw Redux . If you are interested in reading a blog about making and selling headbands go here: Curly K Headbands. So after reading and headbands, I spend most of my time teaching and that's where this story begins.

I have just started my 8th year teaching. So far I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 6th-Language Arts and 4th grade. It has been an interesting, sometimes gratifying and sometimes heartbreaking journey. Each year teaches me something new and each year somethings seem to come easier as well. So I thought about writing a blog about teaching but to me that's not very interesting there are so many, much better blogs on the subject and I do not feel I have anything very special to share.  So I held off on a teaching blog until I had a good idea. Yesterday I was watching a video on youtube from the Pintester and I love watching her try the latest and greatest from one of my favorite websites. Her blog is also hysterical and makes me feel so much better when the things I try on Pinterest go terribly, terribly wrong. Since school has started, so many of my co-workers have been using Pinterest to decorate, teach and organize her room. That's when it hit me. Maybe I could share the teaching side of Pinterest here. I don't plan on making any videos, but I will post pictures when I can. Let me be the first to say, I am not crafty. You would not describe me as artistic. I can't write or cut in a straight line. My drawings are pathetic and about 99% of the time, it's crooked, but I try. As I try, I hope you are inspired to use the things that work and for the things that don't work, either ignore them or make them work for you. So, I really, really love to hear from you. Please comment on what you see, ask questions if I'm not clear and I'd love, love, love ideas to try. I teach 4th grade and all subjects so as long as it would fit my classroom, I'd probably be willing to try it. I'm not very good at staying on a time table with posts, so I can't promise anything weekly but I will do my best. Enjoy!
